Let's set ourselves up for success with the right intentions...

Print out and keep somewhere you see. Visual reminders to reset mood and align focus for practice.

Intentions. Not Goals. Why? Well goals - short, medium and long term - are nice to have but should not be a primary focus, they should be a secondary focus. Why is this? Well in sport goals are often created around an outcome. This outcome can often be impacted by external factors beyond your control. So when you do not achieve your set "goals" you may feel a sense of powerlessness and range of emotions, when in reality you possibly exceeded your own expectations but maybe your performance just did not match your "goal" . Due to this mismatch you unknowingly devalued your performance and possibly everyone else did too because you broadcast your goals too soon. Perhaps the conditions were too great or the competition was too strong. Perhaps your teammates did not play at the level you needed them to or you were competing in a field of competitors way above your normal standard. You can not control external factors but what you can control are the internal ones, these are your intentions. Intentions are your effort, your desire, your determination, your focus, your ability to execute what is being asked of you. Your ability to communicate to others, to lead, to show your form. These are "measurable's" that you can assess your progress in your sport on and the result or outcome or "goal" if it transpires, is the process of mastery of your overall performance. The "goals" become a bonus but never the focus! This year let's try changing your perspective in performance and make 2025 a year of intentions.
